As a guitarist I grew up with jazz and blues. It is the common thread that you hear in the music I make.
Good musicians have always inspired me a lot, not just guitar players, but also saxophone players, trumpet players and singers. Their power, control, and pure emotion that really does something to me. Improvisation adds an extra dimension to this.
Over the course of 50 years of playing the guitar, I have developed my own sound in a way and I think that’s where my strength lies as a guitarist. Compositions usually start with a short phrase on guitar. A lick with a certain characteristic sound gives its own character to a piece. You recognize it from the first notes, if it is a strong line..
I often write about topics that I have to deal with myself or about things that happen in my environment. I then translate that into a song, quite often with a humorous twist. Others write articles or books, but my focus is always the music.
Sad songs about the law, this appeared to be a recurring theme in what I write, which is perhaps not so surprising, because in addition to being a musician, I am also a solicitor. In 2020 I recorded the EP “Dealbreaker” with my band. Due to the Corona period, everything came to a standstill, but at the beginning of 2024 I picked up the thread again.
In addition to performing with my own band, I enjoy playing in the Saskia Laroo Band, with which we regularly play at festivals and in clubs.
